Good For A Small Family! — The performance isn't as good as I would have liked, but for a 1.6 it is pretty good! Mainly got it because of it's 5 star safety rating and the fact it can carry a baby car seat!
Build quality is good, I've had no repairs and it's so quiet! Appearance is 'funky' looking, I like it's big bum! Cost is fairly good - costs around £45 to fill up, and that usually lasts me for around a month!
This car can be fun to drive if you are willing to push it to it's limit! Primary Use: Family transportation.
Renault Megane 2007 Specification
Megane Sport (beast) — I own a 2008 Renault Megane Sport 5 door. The motor pushes 165 kw @ 6000rpm, 300nm @ 3000rpm. 0-100 in 6.5sec. Prepare yourself for a hard ride. The suspension is stiff as to be expected from a sports car. The performance of this beast is incredible especialy on highway travel. Very easy to get 200kph in fourth!
Stops on a dime at low speed, but is VERY twitchy when braking @ high speed(200kph +). The csv understeer control comes in very handy when braking hard. DO NOT turn off the traction control on this vehicle if you don't know how to drive!
This vehicle is not very forgiving unlike the R26 F1. Don't get me wrong though. This is still a great car.
With a 5 star encap rating it is one of the safest vehicles on the road. Cosumption wise the Megane is a thirsty beast. I get about 12 litres per 100km on average (mostly town driving). Don't even get me started on tyres!! I'm running 18 inch 235/40's.
This thing munches tyres like one of my kids with a box of smaties. Even with the traction cotrol on I sometimes find the megan fighting for traction when accelerating hard. Weelspins galore with ASR off:) I have not had any real problems, but recently notice a rattle in the dash at 100+kph. The interior is cosy with full leather all round, heated seast and climate control. Many more extras.
All round the Megan has its good and bad points. You either love or hate it. Love it when you see a GTI dissappearing in the rear view mirror or hate it when you see those twin exhaust pipes leave you in a cloud of tyre smoke. Primary Use: Commuting to work.
