The Peugeot company started in 1810 as a family business making bicycles and coffee mills. Armand Peugeot produced his first vehicle in 1889, but made only four of these steam-powered tricycles. Thereafter, four wheels and internal combustion were deemed the way forward.
Peugeot became the first car maker to fit rubber tyres, and then a Peugeot won the world’s first motor race in 1894. In 1912, a certain Ettore Bugatti designed one of Peugeot’s cars.
